SEEDS 062 - Culture & Midnight sun in the East fjords
30.06.2018

From the 15th till the 29th of June a workcamp in the beautiful town Seyðisfjörður in the eastfjords took place. The initial idea of this workcamp was to assist a local artist in the preparation of an art course for kids. Since this plan couldn’t be realized we assisted the local school in general maintenance work. But moreover could instead help to prepare the upcoming Lungart festival by building a wooden statue and setting up facilities for workshops. In addition, we worked with the technical museum by printing paper bags with ancient manual printing machines and assisted a local artist by collecting wool for an art project. In our free time we participated in the vivid live of this artistic community by admiring exceptional art exhibitions and enjoyed the midsummer night at a bonfire with locals. During a visit to Bogarfjördur we had the chance to observe puffins closely and to join a concert of the famous Icelandic musician Prins Póló. Where we danced till deep in the night with the locals. After the daily work we explored the beautiful Fjord of Seyðisfjörður during many hikes or went on the ocean in kayaks to change the perspective. In the evening we got to know each other better through funny games and explored the tastes of our cultures by tasting the cuisines from China, Mexico, Hongkong and Germany.
