SEEDS 023. The Highlands North of Vatnajökul glacier - Ten days, luckily few more to come!
17.06.2012

We, 9 volunteers, have already spent 10 days in a farm house in the highlands of Iceland. Everything here is much better than we expected it to be. We are in the middle of Nowhere – it takes 45 minutes to get to the nearest village and we love it. The landscape here is amazing - mountains all over around and so many wonderful hiking trails!

Our tasks are different - we are cleaning land from elements and machinery used in the past (old fences, tires, nets, ropes etc.), repairing turf buildings, putting turf around other buildings and repairing hiking trails which means exploring more and more beautiful landscape. We are happy that hosts are satisfied with our work.

Our hosts, their little daughter and stuff working here are doing everything to make us feel like we would be a part of their family. They spend time together with us, tell about Iceland, cook very, very delicious meals and even take us to trips. We already saw Dettifoss waterfall, did whale watching and visited whale museum in Husavik, walked in enclosed canyon Asbyrgi and Dimmuborgir - large area of unusually shaped lava fields, relaxed in a hot underground lake called Grjotagja and we are going to do more.

Some of SEEDS volunteers were so excited that they even decided to stay here longer after the camp!
